Birmingham Ballroom is a ballroom dance studio that originated in Birmingham, Michigan. We have an extremely spacious ballroom dance floor for instruction of American and International style dances.
Owner - Blake Kish
Blake Kish is the founder of Birmingham Ballroom and one of its several seasoned instructors.
Blake has been a professional ballroom dancer and instructor for over 30 years. Blake is also a top competitive professional dancer, having been ranked #1 in the United States with the DanceSport Series in 2012 & 2013. He has been a three time 1st Place Finalist in the Professional Open, American Smooth categories.
Blake says, "If you want to be incredible, be careful because I will push you to do it! "
Some of Blake's recent awards include Top Competitive Teacher in Las Vegas, Washington D.C., Cincinnati, Cleveland, as well as over 20 other states.
Studio Lobby
First impressions are very important, we all know this to be true. Birmingham Ballroom's lobby goes beyond normal, aiming to impress from first sight. Birmingham Ballroom is all about style and that is clear to students the moment they walk through the door.
Parking
Birmingham Ballroom prides itself on an abundant amount of safe parking for its students. Having too much parking, in fact, has eliminated much of the stress associated with commuting to and from the studio.
Ballroom One
The newly renovated front ballroom is a spacious dance area well suited for dance instruction, dance parties and other special dance events.
Ballroom Two
The rear ballroom has also been recently renovated and is perfect for private, more intimate instruction.

Our Lessons

Birmingham Ballroom offers a wide variety of dance style instruction including American Smooth, Rhythm and International Standard, Latin as well as all night club styles.
We offer 10 week group class programs called ballroom blast. You can check our current calendar to see the current dances or call the studio directly for information on the upcoming dances.
Whether you are looking to dance socially, learn a particular dance for a big event, or you want to compete at a high level, Birmingham Ballroom is the perfect partner to help you accomplish your goal.

American Style
In the smooth dances the couples may dance together and apart, and the goal in American Smooth dancing is to dance well in a closed partnership as well as to interpret the music lyrically with open work, (meaning not in a closed dance frame together). These include Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango & Viennese Waltz.
International Style
Emphasis is placed on the closed position in all figures. Couples may not separate in Foxtrot, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Tango or Quickstep, and strive for partnership moving together at all times.
Rhythm Dance Styles
Standardized in the US for competitive events. These dances include West Coast Swing, Hustle, Mambo, Rumba, Cha Cha, Bolero, Samba, East Coast Swing and Meringue.
Smooth Dance Styles
In American Smooth, partners can release their arm hold, allowing spins, dips, and other embellishments that are not permitted in International Standard. Dances include Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz and Waltz.

At Birmingham Ballroom, we feel that the relationship between the student and the instructor is extremely critical in the process of reaching an individual's dance goals. This is why you will find some of the most accomplished and successful instructors in the metro Detroit area teaching here.

Star Dance Club
Star Dance Club is an exclusive club available to individuals or couples to join at Birmingham Ballroom.
Membership to this club includes unlimited use of daily group classes, weekly Friday Night Practice Parties, and Dance Socials held on the last Saturday of each month. For one low price, a member can take advantage of as a few or as many sessions as he or she desires for that particular month.
This is a monthly membership, which begins the first Monday of each calendar month. Automatic renewal is available to avoid the headaches of remembering to make renewal payments.
